Reclaiming the Ground

The violence in your heart

beats-

skipping love

altogether

How can this be?

We are a loving race

once reveling in

our hospitality

Shorn at the knees

but not short on grace

we gather our feet

to sow this land

with peace

Our fathers and

their daughters

sob

Where has Mother Earth

placed our watering cans?

Our land is dry and

we must replenish

the soil

We must raise

our stature

once again

As tall as the sun

and as long

as the day

Our mothers are not

missing this

for one season

Love shoots the moon

between the eyes

and they rejoice

Our feet pause

reclaiming the ground

and

violence-

no longer drums

on the walls

of your heart.
